The Body of a Solar energy system

The most important part of a solar installation is the Photo Voltaic Modules ( P.V. modules). If you choose high quality modules such as Sunpower (USA) & Schott (Germany) wwhich are both backed by an industry-leading reputation and 20+ years experience,and the ability to honour the 20 year warranty they give, you have made the most important decision of your long-term investment.

The Inverter

The Heart of Grid Connected Solar Power is the Inverter. This is the second most important decision
you will make, and the second most expensive. The Europeans lead the world in inverter technology, mainly due to their massive uptake of Green Electricity. Germany has 40% of it’s population Solar Grid Connected, and Spain and Italy are very large players. This is mainly because their governments offer generous “Feed-In Tarrifs”. Brands like SMA, Kaco & Fronius offer very high quality, efficient and durable machines with excellent warrantees.

Mounting Hardware

The skeleton and joints of your P.V. array are extremely important, as these need to endure the marathon of rugged seasons that the southern coastal strip subjects a roof top to, for the 20-30 years that a quality Solar installation is expected to last. Aluminium and Stainless Steel mounting systems are required to make the distance. For this we use Schletter, again manufactured in Germany, which are engineered to cope with harsh European winters and hot Mediterranean Summers.

Installation

Now all that is left is the Installation, by the “Solar Surgeon”. The delicate operation of installing and weather proofing Stainless Steel and/or anodised fixings takes skill, time and care. Solar Modules are temperature intolerant so a minimum of 100mm of air circulation is required to keep operating temperatures as low as possible. This then leads to potential wind lift, so strong and secure mountings ( At least 1 fixing per rail per panel, or 2 per panel ,1 top ,1 bottom) are essential. For this reason, it is vital you choose your solar installation expert carefully..
